LANGUAGE DIFFICULTY SPELLS FAILURE FOR CONTINENTAL BEAUTIES
About two years ago Hollywood sent representatives to Europe to discover new talent. Beauty competitions were held in France, Italy and Spain, and the winners were given contracts. For a while the foreign beauties were a decided asset to the studios. Then came the talkies. Plans were immediately made to have the girls taught English, but they were unable to get rid of the accents. So the producers have decided to use them as “ extras'’ until their contracts expire, and then send, them back to Europe. Among those who will disappear are Maria Alba, Lola Salvi, Lia Tora, Lupita Tovar, Delia Magana. Juan Scdillo, Paul Vincenti, and Olympia Guylherme.
