WINTER SHOW PROFIT
NEARLY £I,OOO FOR EACH ASSOCIATION A.P.A. COUNCIL MEETS As a result of the Winter Exhibition tlio Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Manufacturers’ Association will each benefit by nearly £I,OOO. This announcement was made tit last evening’s meeting of the A.P.A. Council, when the secretary, Mr. W. F. O Donnell, reported that a first payment of £750 had been made to each association and that there would be a further £2OO to £250 available for each, making the net profit similar to that of last year. In reporting on the annual meeting of tho Auckland Provincial Council and the North Island conference recently held in Auckland the secretary aa 1 the conferences were very successful despite the previous criticism from the South, a very friendly tone prevailed. Appreciation was expressed j by tho visiting delegates of the work i of tho Auckland Provincial Council. In fact, it was being recognised that Auckland had accomplished the biggest work in the co-ordination of shows that had been done during th© last 3 0 years. CALF CLUBS SUGGESTED A suggestion that calf clubs should b© formed was discussed at length and a committee representing the following organisations was set up to inquire:—Association council, with six
delegates and one each from the Farmers* Union, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Manufacturers' Association, dairy producers, Education Board, Agricultural Department and one each from the breed associations. The following were elected as the council’s delegates on th_e committee: Messrs. E. D. McLennan, S. H. Barton, S. Hamlin, A. C. Trousdale, J. Meyer and A. J. Stratford. It was left, to this committee to draw up details, after which the other organisations will be approached for their co-opera-tion and the movement extended. Proposals for the registration of side showmen as presented to the Auckland Provincial Council were adopted. Resolutions of sympathy with the relatives of the late James Wyllie and S. J. Ambury, two old members of the association, were passed. The meeting was held in the evening for the first time and in view of the fact that there was little more than a quorum it was decided to revert to afternoon meetings. Mr. W. W. Massey remarked that the association would lose several members who had taken a keen interest in its affairs if it adhered to night meetings.
