THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL
The maintenance of the Mauraki Bridge again came up for discussion at the monthly meeting of the Thames Borough Council. The Public Works Department wrote asking what arrangements had been made between the borough, Hauraki Plains County and Thames County as to the amount each would contribute to the maintenance of the bridge. Tho Mayor, Air. W. Bongard. said the borough objected to maintaining the approaches to the bridge. The approaches started fcom the Kopu Hotel and Kopuarahi Road. The question was referred to the Finance Committee. The two-drill air compressor has been sold to the Tui Goldmining Company. Mr. J. E. Anderson, borough engineer, tendered his resignation to the council in order to take up an appointment with the Public Works Department. Air. Anderson asked to be relieved from office on August 31. The council accepted the resignation and decided to forego the usual three months’ notice. The Alinister of Public Works wrote stating that the Government was prepared to subsidise the approach road to the Totara Cemetery on the basis of £1 for £1 up to C 250, and to provide a further £350 free.
