DEVONPORT SHIELD A AND B TRIAL MATCH Now that the Auckland Hockey Association’s inter-club competition has concluded a start will be made tomorrow with the first of two rounds for the Devonport Shield. All three senior matches have been set down for 1.50 in order to allow players to watch, or compete in, the A and B trial match at 3 o’clock for the purpose of selecting the Auckland team to challenge Canterbury for the Dominion Shield. Somerville has been down to play North Shore in the Devonport series and on this occasion Shore is expected to give a more creditable account than that of a fortnight ago. Conditions for the provincial championship in connection with the second day of the Hamilton Gun Club * shoot at Ruakura were satisfactory today. There was a big field of 33 competitors for tho provincial championship (21 birds). It was won by C. Seddon, a Hamilton man, who shot the possible.
