HANDICAP: 1 CWT.
In a town on the West Coast of Tasmania some young men, most of whom ! a\ ere fair runners, were discussing j foot-racing and relating incidents they 1 had witnessed on the track. An argument arose between two of the men, and one said, “I admit that you are a better runner than I am, but I’ll race you 120yds and carry lcwt as a handicap if you give me a start of 20yds.” A wager was made, and the challenger Avon easily. To the surprise of the loser the challenger did not appear on the track carrying a heavy weight, and ho indignantly asked, "Where is that hundred-weight?” The challenger removed his jacket and displayed a neatly-made woollen A-est, in Avhicli, carefully balanced on shoulders and hack, avus lcwt of shot. The challenger’s tailor had excelled himself. In addition, the track on the recreation ground was slightly down hill. ,
