CAR THIEVES CAPTURED

CHASE OVER ROUGH COUNTRY MAORI YOUTHS IN COURT Press Association GISBORNE, Today. A fortnight ago a car belonging to Frank Hildreth, of Mangawai, Hawke’s Bay, was stolen from his homestead and two days later was found capsized and abandoned on the Coast Road, north of Gisborne. A search was then made by the police for two native youths who, with a Maori girl, were absent from the locality and, after a strenuous chase over rough country this morning, they were captured. The girl had sprained an ankle, and had- to be carried for about a mile. The youths, Jimmy Lawson and Edward Tamai, were charged at the Gisborne Police Court with stealing a car, and were remanded. The girl, who was charged with absconding from licensed service, was also remanded.
