C ? U f se ancl Grammar School Old Boys’ Association. Apologies were received from Mr U J. Mahon, headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School; Professor Maxwell Walker, Canon H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King's College; Mr. XV. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau; Mr. A XV Clearj- M P ‘ f ° r Hauraki; ancl Bishop In Introducing Mr. Bailey, and extending a welcome to those present, the chairman expressed his pleasure at presiding at such a representative meeting to honour Mr. Bailey, one of their own townspeople. Although not born in Otahuhu, Mr. Bailey had lived in the town since he was eight years of age, and had received his primary education at the Otahuhu Convent, and later at the Marist Brothers' College Auckland. ’ Professor Paterson dwelt on the lighter side of life at Trinity College Oxford, their guest’s future home, and concluded by extending his earnest congratulations to the people of Otahuhu on their action in tendering such a spontaneous farewell to Mr. Bailey. Mr. McVeagh, Bro Benignus, Colonel ■N orth croft. Professor Algie Father Dumpily, Mr. McElrov and Mr McLeod also congratulated Mr. Bailey on his success. ~ „ In presenting Mr. Bailey with a substantial cheque as a token of goodwill from his townspeople, the Mavor stated that the crowded hall was sufficient testimony of the local opinion of Mr. Bailey. He wished the recipient God-speed, a pleasant voyage, and good health through his studies. A medal was also presented to Mr Bailey on behalf of the Hibernian Society. On rising to reply, Mr. Bailev was accorded a very cordial greeting. He said that he owed the opportunitv of attaining his present position, firstly to his parents, and, secondly, to his teachers, without whose assistance and encouragement his own efforts would have availed very little. In expressing his appreciation of the splendid gift, Mr. Bailey assured those present that he would never forget the warm farewell from the citizens of Otahuhu. An excellent programme of musical 'items was contributed by Mr. Ron Huston, Miss Marjorie Ryan, Mr. Howard Hunter. Miss Mavis Grevatt. Madame Towsey. Signor Costantini and Miss Amy Clapham. Mr. Eric Bell acted as accompanist. _
