MORE MUNICIPAL ENTERPRISE

; 'From Our Coircsuo.idf .it, Juxnkiunict) WAIKIKAMOOKAU, Wednesday. COMMENTING on Mr. T. Blooworth's address upon "Municipal Enterprise " to the Auckland AdveUsing Club, in which the speakesuggests that the Auckland Cit--Council should provide a rnunicip:,' golf course, a municipal milk supply* a municipal airdrome and a municipal bank. the Waikikamookau “Dai'v Clarion." speaking editorially, sayi that this merely emphasises the old adage that what Waikikamookau did last Friday, Auckland wouldn't think of doing under any circumstances. !• also quotes extracts from past meet ings of the Waikikamookau Borough Council, which bear directly on the question and which prove that Mr. Bloodworth's suggestions were thrashed out and settled long ago. as far as Waikikamookau was con- ! cerned.

The golf course was advocated by Councillor Gooble at a meeting held at the end of last year. Cr. Gooble said that he was not a golfer, but that he once heard some golfers playing and that he had since regarded the game with a good deal oi respect. In addition to this, he

understood that golf was a better game than diabolo. Councillor Gooble's suggestion was pnt to the motiooi and passed, with an amendment to the effect that City Councillors at all times should have a tree pass to the links, and be allowed six strokes a hole, against visitors and non councillors. The construction of a municipal bank was authorised at a subsequent meeting, when it had been found that another hazard was needed at the fourth hole, but the municipal airdrome was arranged for during the time oi Captain KSngsford Smith's visit, when an official invitation to the town was sent to the crew of the Southern Cross. It was pointed out to the airmen that in the event of their availing themselves of the offer, they could board quite reasonably with the Mayor, and that the vicar had very kindly offered them the use of his tennis court on which to land.

Though the airmen were unable to accept the offer at the time, the vicar's tennis court has always been available for any airplane pilot who wished to land at Waikikamookau. On request they may also look at his barometer to ascertain if it is raining or not, or his clock to ascertain the time.

With regard to the niurrtcipahsatica of the milk supply, the council h. - not been so successful- It approached Earmer Mangel with the suggestion™ but he had suited tfi* 7 - cow and calf, he had had shat milk supply for 20 years; that she was a respectable married cow, and anybody who thought that they con.cmnnicipalise her had better to her spouse. The bull has not yet been approached. The report of the latest counOil meeting also included in the "Clarion is a further justification for the co®' struction of the municipal golf Councillor Gooble moved thaj. thy minutes of the last meeting . taken as read, as he desnw* to tell the council about a markable shot that he had made athe ninth hole that day. The Mavor: So did I. Cr. Gooble: What, at the ninth. The Mavor: Oh, no; I thought you said the 19th. I got remarkably sboCr. Gooble: Don’t interrupt wnu your idle chatter —as I was saying I found I was lying in a sand dubK

The Mayor: So did I . . - , Cr. Gooble: I mean the ball—* o took mv iron . . . ... Cr. Gump: That reminds me— I ever tell you what happened to teat the 14th? It was this way . <At this stage our reporter quie. . withdrew.)
