FRANKLIN NOTES

A reunion of Franklin district lodges of the Independent Order of Oddfellows was held at Pukekohe on Tuesday evening. Thogt present included the Auckland District Deputy-Grand Master, Past Grand Master and Past District Deputy Grand Sire of Australasia, Bro. M. J. Hooper, and the Franklin District Deputy Grand Master, Bro. H. M. Barriball. Representatives were present from Epsom, Excelsior, Bethesda, Rebekah, •Star of Papakura, Elra Rebekah, Star of Waiuku, Lily of Franklin and Clevedon lodges. Dancing and competitions were indulged in. Musical and vocal items were also given. In recognition of his past services, the Past District Deputy Grand Master for Franklin, Bro. D. H. Pemberton, was presented with a jewel by Bro. Hooper, on behalf of the Franklin lodges.

The installation of an up-to-date fire-alarm system for the Pukekohe Fire Board has been completed. Eleven alarm boxes, situated at convenient centres in the inner portion of the borough, connect with a siren of an exceptionally loud tone. The alarm can also be given from the telephone exchange. The former system was found to be faulty, and the board recently authorised the installation of a new one.
