DR. RANSTON’S FAREWELL

METHODIST CHURCH TRIBUTE HOLIDAY ABROAD Many tributes were paid to the scholarship and service of the Rev. Dr. Harry Ranston, Litt.D., at a large meeting in the Pitt Street Methodist Church* on Tuesday afternoon, called to bid farewell to the doctor and his wife who left Auckland last evening on a holiday trip abroad. Dr. and Mrs. Ranston will join the lonic at Wellington en route for England, where they will spend six months.

The Rev. J. F. Goldie, president of the Methodist Conference, who presided, assured Dr. Ranston that he was held in high esteem by the whole Methodist Church of New Zealand. He hoped Dr. and Mrs. Ranston would have a happy voyage and a safe return. The Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, principal of Trinity Methodist College, eulogised the work of his colleague, saying that no man in the church deserved a holiday more than Dr. Ranston. The felicitations of the other speakers were endorsed by Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, vice-president of the Trinity College Council. On behalf of laymen throughout the Auckland district and others in New Zealand, Mr. Sexton presented Dr. Ranston with a substantial cheque. Dr. Ranston in reply thanked the chairman and other speakers for their kindly words and wishes.
