PUCCINI MUSICAL SOCIETY

The Puccini Musical Society, assisted by the well-known Auckland Trio, will give a grand concert in the Town Hall concert chamber on Thursday evening next. An excellent programme of musical items, solos and songs by the choir will be presented. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund.

Betty Balfour made her first public appearance since her recent illness at the Regal Theatre, London, recently, for the purpose of introducing her protegee, Miss Katherine Reeves, the blind pianist, to the audience. Miss Balfour’s voice could be heard in every part of the house, and suggested that whenever she does appear in a talkie she may create even a greater success than she has done on the silent screen.
