MATRIX for metropolitan SYDNEY MARKET FLUCTUATIONS Last week s new favourite in Sydney for a spring event has attracted its m eed of support. Oratrix, because of her Canterbury Park win, has become first fancy for the Metropolitan. A striking feature cf the Sydney market on the Cups is that trainer J. Holt has two first-favourites for the Caulfield Cup, High Syce and the exXeW Zealand Second A\ ind, who came the far ends of the Commonwealth, Queensland and Western Australia. Oratrix s form was good enough to commend her lor the -Metropolitan, for j she won handsomely, and many ! doubles were taken wi .h her. beginning j mostly With Hamulus, Aussie, Poitiers | and Sir Christopher. But she has been popular almost I since publication of weights, for she had shown last year a liking for this j race with her second to Jocelyn, and j the Canterbury win that revealed her in such a favourable light moved the books to shorten the odds and make her outright favourite. Aussie has done so well on the tracks here that he is growing in favour, but his 9.9 checks many admirers I from taking wagers with him for the ! Seatown and High Syce are Caul- . field Cup picks coupled recently in ! doubles, and Muratti and Carradale are chosen in a few' “ways” for the Melbourne Cup. Good W.A. Horse Sydney books have Jack Holt’s pair, j High Syce and Second Wind, at the j head of the Caulfield Cup because a j move may be expected at any time ! now*, no doubt, for* either. Second j Wind, like previous Caulfield Cup win- ! ners in Holt’s stable, Eurythmic and Maple, is from West Australia, where he performed in good style. High Syce, on the other hand, is, from the other end of the Commonwealth, having carried all before him in Queensland. Good judges have said that if ever he strikes best Queensland form in Victoria he will be the ideal Caulfield Cup horse. When business ceased in Sydney on Tuesday of last week the following was the order of fancy in all the spring races:— EPSOM HANDICAP—I Mile (Run October 5.) Ilamulus, Sion.
