Civil Servant Held on Charge of Theft
arrested today NAME SUPPRESSED Charged with the theft of £l6B, the property of the New Zealand Government, on June 28, a civil jervant .aged 47, was remanded <or a week at the Police Court this afternoon. h. B- P. Townsend asked for he suppre ssion of accused's name in hie meantime-Chief-Detective Hammond demurred- Full restitution had been made, he said, but the man would jroba’bly plead guilty. Counsel considered it likely that ,censed would not admit the offence, and Mr. Hammond offering no further objecnion, the order for suppression #as made. Bail was granted in one surety of £2OO. It is understood that the man was arrested by Detective Nalder at 10.30 o'clock today in his suburban home.
