The need tor bringing the RotoruaTaupo road up to such a standard tha: it would be fit. for heavy traffic was stressed in the House of Representatives today by Mr. C. H. Clinkard (Rotorua). He was informed that early action would be taken. Mr. Clinkard asked the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hoa. Sir Joseph Ward, what action was being taken to bring the road up to the standard of heavy traffic, as the Prime Minister had promised in his speech at Rotorua. The work was urgent, and the road was closed during the winter months. The Prime Minister replied that early arrangements for this work were being made. It had been specified as long ago as 1926 that the road was of four-ton capacity. He was not aware that the road was closed during the winter months.
