FARM-WORKER’S DEATH
CRUSHED BY HORSE (Special to THE SUN) WHITIAXGA, Tuesday. That death was due to being - accidentally killed through the falling of his horse was the verdict returned at the inquest today concerning the death of Ernest Pudney, whose body was found on the roadside five miles from Whitianga, on Saturday. William Clune. labourer, said when riding from Kuatuni to Mercury Bay on Saturday he found Pudney’s body lying in a wheel rut. His saddled horse was grazing nearby. Deceased’s horse had probably killed him by rolling over him after a fall on the slippery road. William James Kirk, lorry driver, said while attending to his lorry on the Kuaotunu Hill he spoke to Pudney as he rode past on horseback. Pudney informed witness he was going to sell his horse and then pi'oceeded in the direction of Mercury Bay. Dr. H. A. Minds, medical superintendent of the Mercury Bay Hospital, said he was of the opinion that Pudney had been crushed by his horse •after a fall.
