MINING FATALITY

FUNERAL OF VICTIM HUNTLY, Monday. The funeral of the late Mr. Sam Broadbent, who was killed in a mine last week, took place at Kimihia Cemetery yesterday. The cortege was a large one, and every miners’ union in the district was represented. The management of the Taupiri Coal Company was represented by Mr. J. Watson. general manager, Mr. Alec Penman, mine manager, and other staff officials. The Maoris’ tribute to the deceased was the playing of the “Dead March.” The Rev. C. J. Bush-King read the bui'ial service. The returned soldiers attended in large numbers under Major Coldwell, and Bandmaster Morgan sounded the “Last Post.” Floral emblems were sent by all sections of the community.
