Queen Carnival at Dargaville
REGIMENTAL BAND’S CONTEST
MISS WARATAH WAKELIN THE WINNER Terminating with a successful Paddy’s Market, the >7 or til Auckland Regimental Band's queen carnivtß closed last evening in the Royal Theatre, Dargaville. The total takings over all expenses amounted to approximately £270. The market was opened by Mr. F. A. Jones, Mayor of Dargaville, who emphasised the needs of the band and tho objects of the carnival, particularly the liquidating of the present debt, and tlie enlarging and improving of the band room. He asked ail to liberally support the band. Tho various stalls and side attractions reported splendid business. The announcement by the organiser, Mr. A. S. Whatford, of the result of the queen contest, declaring the band queen, Miss Waratah Wakelin, as the winner, was received with rounds ef applausp. Miss Wakelin received "•7- 4 ~v otes. and Miss Alma Tonkin, inendly societies' queen, 7,a45.
