PLAZA
LAST DAYS OF “LOVE NEVER DIES” Love’s young dream in the lilacscented bowers of Franco, a passionate devotion that blossoms amid the ravages of war, such is First National’s aerial epic production, “Love Never Lies,” now at the Plaza Theatre. Colleen Moore, who is cast in the starring role, enacts the character of .Teannino with supreme artistry, while Gary Cooper gives a magnificent performance as Captain Blythe of the Royal Flying Corps. The men* who flew in “Love Never Lies” are among the finest pilots in America. Most of them made brilliant records in the war. The sound synchronisation of this picture produces a particularly realistic effect. There is also an excellent supporting programme of short talkie features. A man so busy that he gives orders for stock buying and selling while in his bath, shouting his instructions into the mouthpiece of a dictaphone; such a part is that played by George Bancroft in his newest starring picture for Paramount, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” the all-talking production coming to the Plaza on Friday next. “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which was directed by Rowland V. Lee, presents Bancroft in a role absolutely new to him. Instead of the rowdy Bull "Weed of “Underworld,” the oil spattered driller of “The Showdown” and the deep-chested stoker of “The Locks of New York,” this new picture presents Bancroft as a swaggering, devil-may-care brute of finance, who gives no quarter and asks none. The story was written by Loris Anderson. The supporting cast includes some of the most able players under contract to Paramount, among them Baclanovu, Nancy Carroll, Paul Lukas and Paul Guertzman.
