ADVERTISING WOOL
SMALL LEVY SUGGESTED (Special to TEE SUN) WELLINGTON, Today. The opinion that funds for wool research and for a publicity campaign should be provided by a small levy on New Zealand wool was expressed by Mr. B. E. H. Tripp, of Timaru, who returned from Sydney by the Marama yesterday. A levy of 2s 6d per £IOO would provide the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation with about £14,000 a year. There is a vast field for advertising wool, especially in the East. It was mentioned by Mr. Tripp that* the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Stanley Bruce, the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Dudley de Chair, and Ministers of the Federal and State Parliaments had promised their support to an advertising and research scheme. “I strongly suggest that some levy be adopted in New Zealand,” said Mr. Tripp, "and that representations be made to the Prime Minister, as has been done in Australia.” At Melbourne Mr. Tripp attended a meeting of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society, when grave concern was expressed at the growth in the use of artificial silk and “synthetic” wool.
