ST. JAMES THEATRE
FRANK O’BRIAN AND COMPANY This week’s programme of Frank O’Brian and his Revellers is an unusually bright and sparkling show. “Dog Days” is the title of this revue, which goes with a merry swing from the beginning to the end. The large audience present at St. James Theatre last evening was not slow in recording its appreciation. As usual Frank O’Brian and Miss Janice Hart take the lead, and with the humour in the various songs and sketches they present, make the show t go. Without a doubt their programme is the best they have put across. “Tiny Varsity Boys,” the jazz band of the show, gives several splendid numbers which are real gems. “The Versatile Eight” with their new turn was encored several times. Their dancing leaves nothing to be desired. Albert Batchelder, at the piano, is well worth hearing. Brilliant and unusual frocking, together with splendid stage setting, is a revelation and leaves a pleasant feeling. This programme will be continued until Thursday evening. Maurice Chevalier, star in “Innocents Of Paris*!’ coming shortly to New Zealand, dislikes singing over the radio. He has refused thousands of requests. Chevalier’s personality isone of his chief assets and “over the air” it would be lost to a certain extent.
