SWIMMING LOSS
DOROTHY GRANT GOES TO SUVA AUCKLAND CHAMPION Auckland lost a valuable swimmer when the Aorangi sailed today. TiOROTHY GRANT, women’s middledistance champion of the Auckland centre, left for Suva, where she will stay for an indefinite period. Miss Grant established a place near the head of women’s swimming throughout New Zealand during a comparatively brief appearance in competitive swimming. Auckland first noted her ability two seasons ago, when she headed prominent swimmers in the furlong and the quarter-mile women’s championship. She followed these sudden wins by swimming second to Kathleen Miller, prominent Southern swimmer, in national contests over the same distances. Last season saw Miss Grant improve wonderfully. She kept her Auckland titles with comparative ease, and troubled Miss Miller greatly in the Dominion events, when Auckland proved its supremacy in swimming. In handicap races in the city, Miss Grant, who was women’s captain of the Grammar Club, was a keen performer. was a good sprint swimmer and was placed third in the New Zealand IUO yards race. She may decide to compete in Suva. A valuable official in the sport in the city has been compelled to abandon official duty. He is Mr. A. B. A prominent ex-Wellington swimmer who is to race in the next competitions will be G. Rix-Trott, who is attending the University.
