MONGOL REVOLT FEARED
SOVIET’S MISCHIEVOUS ACTIVITIES CHINA’S GRIP ON RAILWAY (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.35 a.m. SHANGHAI, Sunday. Despite signs of an early resumption of some form of negotiations between China and Russia, the Chinese are steadily tightening their grip of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Nanking has received urgent dispatches from Kalgan and Urga, disclosing the Soviet’s subversive activities in Outer Mongolia, where a Mongolian rebellion is expected at any moment. Nanking announces that additional troops are not necessary in the North. The present forces of 200,000 are considered an adequate protection for the border. Considerable anxiety still exists in Manchuria, following the arrival of the Chinese Consul and his staff and their families, who report ill-treat-ment of the Chinese community at Vladivostok, and the refusal of the Soviet authorities to supply food. It is stated that the Soviet troops are drilling night and das'. Motors and other vehicles are being commandeered.
LONDON SCRIMMAGE HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION AT LEGATION (Australian aucl X.Z. Press Association) ( U nited Service) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. The police frustrated an attempt at a hostile demonstration at the Chinese Legation in London. After ail antiwar meeting at Trafalgar Square, Communists demonstrated outside the legation, but mounted police moved them on. A scrimmage occurred, hut there were no incidents of note.
