COTTON TRADE CRISIS
ONLY A MIRACLE CAN AVERT STOPPAGE . 500,000 OPERATIVES IDLE (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Unless an eleventh-hour miracle occurs, I.SOO Lancashire cotton mills and 500,000 operatives will be idle tomorrow. Nothing was done today to bridge the gulf which the statements of the two sides show to be disastrously wide. The negotiations for a settlement of the crisis broke down at a late hour ou Saturday night, in spite of the efforts of Sir Horace Wilson, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Labour.
