FRUIT ALL THE YEAR ROUND

•OAK" CANNED PRODUCTS In the winter-time, when fruit is so valuable for health, New Zealanders are indeed fortunate in being able to secure as much fruit of all varieties as they require per the medium of canned fruit. Fruit-canning is carried on in this country to a much greater extent than is generally supposed. Thousands upon thousands of firstclass Bartlett pears are canned annually, and their quality is equal to the best in any part of the world. Considerable quantities of peaches and apricots are also canned in New Zealand every year by the famous ••Oak” people, and so are thousands of cases of tomatoes. Greengages and other light coloured plums are canned, as well as raspberries, gooseberries, cape gooseberries, black currants, passion fruit and even a few blackberries. Very soon loganberries will be canned Into m large quantities, but for perfection of delicacy one can commend the canned raspberries that are already making such a good appearance in the shops. Owing to the large areas that have lately been planted in peaches, apricots and passion fruit, none of these varieties' of canned fruit will be required from overseas in a few years to come. When you buy New Zealand bottled or canned fruit-salad, you may be almost sure that the lovely combination of fruits will contain nothing but New Zealand grown, with the exception of the few pieces of pineapple in it.
