Smith, in Hamilton. * * * Miss Nan Monckton has left Hamilton for Wanganui, where she will training in the Karitane Hospital. * * * AFTERNOON PARTY On Thursday afternoon Miss Elsie Simmons gave a very happy party at her home in Claudelands. Miss Simmons was wearing a frock of maize coloured crepe de chine with a bridge coat of golden brown chenille velvet. The guests played progressive bridge, the prizewinners being Miss Val Walls and Miss Barbara Humphrys. The guests were:—Mrs. A. Matthews, Miss D. Yule, Miss B. Humphrys (New Plymouth), Miss I). Clark, Miss B. Manning. Miss T. Gardner, Miss G. Ward, Miss X. Valder, Miss G. Hammond. Miss K. Wilson, Miss Val Walls and Miss K. Wilson. * * * READING CIRCLE MEETS At the meeting of the Lyceum Club Dramatic Reading Circle on Tuesday night two short plays -were read. In •Rosalind,” by J. M. Barrie, Rosalind was dramatically read by Miss Seal, Dame Quickly by Miss Joan Welch’ and Charles Roach by Miss E. Madeley. in “The Patch-work Quilt,” a wistful little play by Rachel Lyman Field, Mr. •T. .T. Standon took the part of Mrs. Wills, the old woman; Mrs. E. G. Johnson, Anne Wendall, her unsympathetic daughter; Mrs. J. Staples, Joe Wendall, her son-in-law; Miss A. Scott, Betty, the granddaughter in the fantasy included in the play. Miss Wright was Molly, Miss M. Campbell was William, and Miss Scott, Emily. The members present were:—Mrs. Staples, Mrs. F. Bullock, Mrs. F. Brewer. Mrs. J. Prenton, Mrs. Andrews. Mrs. Graham, Mrs. H. Toombs, Mrs. T. Reynolds, Mrs. Oswald Smith, Mrs. T. Campbell, Mrs. J. Stanton, Mrs. E. G. Johnson, Mrs. Seal, Miss Noble, Miss Eastwood, Miss L. Nicholls, Miss J. Welsh, Miss E.
