COMMERCE CONFERENCE

ASSOCIATED CHAMBER TO MEET IMPORTANT REMITS For the first time in six years Auckland -will be the scene of the annual conference of the Association of New Zealand Chambers of Commerce. The conference will take place on Monday and Tuesday, October 14 and 15.

The president of the Associated Chambers was Mr. H. W. Hudson, of Auckland, at the last conference here, and it was expected that, with the appointment of the late Mr. H. P. Caughey as president, an Aucklander would again preside over the conference here. Owing to his death, however, the chair will be occupied by a vice-president, Mr. C. P. Agar, of Christchurch.

The last conference was held in Auckland in 1923. In years of an even number, the conference is always held in Wellington, which leaves only one year in six for other centres. The choice of a Monday and Tuesday for the conference instead of a Friday and Monday, as has been customary in the past, has been made in deference to the position of the Invercargill delegate, who can now leave home on Saturday morning and return by Thursday night. Between 40 and 50 delegates, representing Chambers of Commerce in more than 30 different centres, are expected to attend. A special committee of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce will be set up on Monday to organise their entertainment. An important remit from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce will be considered in connection with a more simple method of dealing with motoring offenders who plead guilty to trivial offences.
