TURBULENT TRIBESMEN

RUMOUR BLAMES BRITAIN FOR RISINGS PERSIA REASSURED British Official Wireless Reed. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Thursday Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Mr. Arthur Henderson, the Foreign Secretary, said the Government had received reports concerning tribal disturbances in Southern Persia. It had also been informed of certain rumours that were current in Persia, to the effect that the risings were being instigated by British agents. Ke was glad to have the opportunity of stating that these rumours were devoid of any foundation whatsoever, and that the policy

of the British Government remained one of strict non-intervention in Persian internal affairs. He was confident that the Persian Government, which had had ample evidence during the past few years of the friendly attitude of Great Britain, realised that in its present difficulties with its disaffected tribes, it might count on the sympathy of the British Government, whose one desire was to see Persia prosperous and peaceful, under a strong and independent Government.
