Charity Day Matches

; SECONDARY SCHOOL RUGBY Bright Programme for Tomorrow RUGBY UNION fans will have a change from their usual football fare at Eden Park tomorrow, when the annual Charity Day matches which’ feature secondary school football will be staged. The characteristic bright, open play of . secondary school sides, always a popular and much enjoyed attraction to the public, should draw a good gate. In the feature clash of the day, to be played on the main area, King’s College will meet Auckland Grammar, two sides which are equal with Mount Albert in the competition, and a “battle royal” is well on the cards.

I Mount Albert will, play Sacred Heart in the curtain-raiser at 1.45. and Auckland Grammar B will meet Takapuna Grammar on the No. 2 ground at the same time. In previous matches this season between the leading teams the results were as follow:—Auckland Grammar, G. Mount Albert, 3: Mount Albert, 20, King’s, 3; King’s, 6, Auckland GramWhile it can well be expected that the secondary school games will command much attention, the three senior grade matches, also fixed to take place at Eden Park, will certainly not be ignored by a number of the fans. On the No. 3 ground at 1.30 a close game should eventuate between Urii-> versity and Grammar Old Boys. Marist and Grafton will play on the No. 2 ground at three o’clock, and College Rifles will meet Technical Old Boys on the No. 3 ground at the same time. In the outside matches, Ponsonby and City will meet at the Showgrounds, and Training College will play Manukau at Onehunga. Senior A Grade University.—Robinson, Edwards, Jenkin. JUNIOR NOTES POSITIONS OF THE TEAMS Loss of two Saturdays’ play through bad weather has seriously affected the competitions in all grades irom juniors down. The interruption will naturally impair the prospects of the juniors completing their contests well up to time this year, leaving a few Satur-

days for representative fixtures toward the end of the season. As for the other grhdes, before last Saturday’s postponement many of the clubs had not completed their engagements. In the ordinary course the competition section winners would not be decided until well into October, if the present fixtures were adhered to. It is, therefore, probable that the Junior Management Committee will have to recast the draw so that the leading teams in each section will meet in a “sudden death” series of elimination matches. The curtain-raiser to the WaikatoAuckland representative match at Eden Park on August 3 will be provided by Marist’s third intermediate team, which so far tyis an unbeaten record in 13 section of the competitions, and a Hamilton third grade fifteen. An indication of the extent to which the competitions have been affected is to be found in the result of the first round. Four games have still to be played in the third intermediate A section, and a similar number in the B section. Six games have yet to be decided in section A and one in section B in the fourth grade. In the fifth grade only one match has yet to be played, while in the seventh B four are still awaiting decision. In the B section Marist is tlie undefeated team, and it is more than likely the Tykes will hold their position when they meet P.W.D. in the match to finish the round. A challenge match for the Ratana Cup was played at Te Kuiti today in beautiful weather between Maniapoto (holder) and Hauraki, before a large attendance of spectators.
