BOOKMAKER FINED £25 QUEEN STREET ARREST With books showing that he had transacted £2O worth of business during the day, Stanley McCormack, painter, aged 33, was arrested in Queen Street yesterday afternoon, and later appeared in the Police Court charged with carrying on business as a bookmaker. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused had been taking bets in hotels in Lower Queen Street on the Gisborne and South Canterbury races. He was operating in a small way only. Mr. Hammond said that to the knowledge of the police accused had been carrying on for some weeks. McCormack pleaded guilt}’ and was fined £25 by the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. He was allowed time to pay.
