DROUGHT AND COLD

SEVERE CONDITIONS IN NEW SOUTH WALES FARMERS HARD HIT SYDNEY, Wednesday. The greater portion of New South Wales is experiencing one of the most severe droughts ever recorded. There is not a blade of grass to be seen for hundreds of miles in the western divisions of the State, and stock is being kept alive by hand-feeding. Intense cold is killing sheep and cattle. Wheat farmers everywhere are in dire straits. They have been forced to ask the Government for help to tide them over this difficult period. The Government is considering a scheme of general relief for the needy farmers and pastoralists.
