Obituary

MR. W. C. PICKETT Mr. William Charles Pickett, who died at his home in River Road, Claudelands, Hamilton, yesterday at the age of G 7, was born in Whitney, Oxfordshire, England, and came to New Zealand about 55 years ago. For some I years he was in the employ of the j Railway Department, then went into the hotel business, being proprietor of j the Mercer Hotel, the Ohaupo Hotel j and the Suffolk Hotel, at Ponsonby, at ( various times. During the past six. ; years he had been living in retirement j at Hamilton. Mr. Pickett was actively i interested in public affairs and was at ■ various times chairman of the Mor- \ rinsville School Committee, Morrins- j ville Town Board, Ohaupo Town j Board, and a member of the Te Awa- | mutu Electric-Power Board. He was a foundation member of Lodge Piako, Morrinsville. Mr. Pickett is survived by two daughters and one son. There are 10 grandchildren.

MRS. E. BEILBY I■ ' ' The death of Mrs. Emma Beilby. ot Taniwha, occurred yesterday. Mrs. Beilby, who was born in 1856, formerly resided in Waipawa and Woodville, and was a great Anglican Church worker. Her husband died three years ago and she leaves three sons and a daughter.
