PHOSPHATE SUPPLIES
POSITION WITH NAURU DOMINION’S NEGOTIATIONS (TUB SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Th© New Zealand Government is fully alive to the necessity of getting permanent manure supplies, as was revealed by a statement in the House of Representatives this afternoon. In reply to a question from Mr. W. L. Martin (Raglan), the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Agriculture, - stated (1) that the Government has no information indicating that Great Britain will b© taking her quota, of Nauru phosphates at the conclusion of the present agreement, and the indications ar© that she is not likely to do so: (2) the negotiations for further phosphate supplies have not yet been completed; (3) in addition to the endeavour to make satisfactory arrangements which will ensure a further permanent supply supplementary to that from Ocean and Nauru Islands, the Government is keeping in close touch with exploratory work for the purpose of determining whether hitherto unknown phosphate deposits exist in locations within reasonable distance of Australia and New* Zealand.
