FRANKLIN POWER BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Franklin Electric-Power Board was held yesterday, Mr. J. Dean presiding. A sum of £25 was donated to the earthquake relief fund. Settlers of Miranda and Kaiaua, Charles Road (Karaka) and Paparimu, asked to be supplied with power. The engineer was asked to investigate the prospective loads. Authority was given to the engineer to engage an assistant canvasser for the purpose of canvassing the Happy Valley district, with the view of supplying power for the approaching milking season. A contract for wiring and installations in the Te Hilii-Karaka group was let to W. Milne, Papakura, for £IOG 11s 2d. A recommendation by the tree-plant-ing committee that no action be taken by the board in connection with treeplanting for future pole requirements, was adopted. It was pointed out that certain risks were involved, while there was a tendency for concrete poles to become much cheaper than the poles now being used. It was decided to encourage farmers who had waste land to plant suitable trees. The engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton, reported that pole erecting had been carried out at Karaka, Te 1-lihi. Otaura, Marion, Raraarama and Glenbrook. On account of the state of the roads, the work on the Kahawai Parish Road at Glenbrook had been held up. The wiring and maintenance gangs had been kept busy in all parts of the district. Satisfactory progress was being made with all group contracts. The total connected load was 5.932.051 k.w., and there were 2,75 S connected consumers.
