MRS. J. BROWN ; IS HOSTESS AT FAREWELL DANCE Mrs. J. Brown gave a dance in the Parish Hall, Te Puke, for Mr. F. Chapman, who is shortly leaving the town for Opotiki. Bowls of red poinsettias added a glowing note of colour to the stage. Music was - played by Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, Misses Riley and Heerdegen and Mr. Henderson, and Mr. Mollgaard. During the evening Mr. Hookey, on behalf of the Tennis Club, presented the guest of honour with a very large torch and on behalf of those present with an umbrella, suitably inscribed. Mr. Chapman briefly responded. Mrs. Brown received her guests in a black lace frock relieved with vieux rose. Miss Brown wore apricot velvet with gold lace overskirt. Those present were: Mrs. Pilcher, in black net relieved with blue; Mi's. Hargreaves, powder blue velvet with silver lace overskirt; Mrs. Anderson, blue chenille velvet; Mrs. Brewer, who wore black lace. Miss O’Driscoll, in vieux rose satin; Miss Wilson, who wore white crepe de chine with lace overskirt; Miss Jamieson, who chose pink taffeta; Miss E. Cuff, in a white crepe tie chine bodice with net skirt; Miss A. Bostock, wearing vieux rose shot taffeta; Miss Watson, who wore a black beaded frock; Miss Rose (Palmerston North), in pale primrose crepe de chine. Miss Joyce, wearing black crepe de chine and lace; Miss Rogers, in black satin; Miss Mollgaard, who wore pink shot taffeta; Miss Turner, in black taffeta; Miss Ryburn, who chose deep blue shot taffeta; Miss Riddell, in a tangerine satin gown: Miss Sinclair (Auckland), in peach taffeta and gold lame. Miss McNaughton, in sage green georgette trimmed with lace; Miss E. Morton, who wore primrose taffeta; Miss P. Bateman (Tauranga), in pale lemon taffeta; Miss E. Riley, wearing deep blue crepe de chine'; Miss M. Morton, in a lemon taffeta frock: Miss D. Heerdegen, who chose night blue crepe de chine trimmed with gold sequins: Miss I. "Wilkins, in pale pink satin with lace hem: Miss IT. Cook, wearing white crepe de chine with rosebud trimming; Miss A. Mark, who chose a jarle crepe de chine headed frock; Miss AT. Collins, in peach taffeta: Miss X. Keys, wearing a flame net frock: Miss .T. McEldowney, in blue georgette; Miss G. Cuff, who wore red velvet. BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY NORTHCOTE BRANCH FORMED A very pleasant afternoon was given by Mrs. A. Campbell at her home, “Ko Rangi,” in Queen Street, Northcote. to over forty women of the Protestant Churches of the suburb on behalf of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The Rev. F. A. Thompson. Presbyterian minister, presided and introduced Miss Young, the society’s organi iser for the Auckland Province, who j gave an eloquent address on the origin • and aim of the society’s work. She (•appealed to those present to form a branch at Northcote. j In response a branch was formed. Mrs. A. Taylor was elected president, Miss Shute, secretary and treasurer, and a large number of vice-presidents* were appointed from the Anglican. Presbyterian. Methodist and Congregational Churches. It was decided to make the First public appeal in the borough during the first week in August, and a large number of those present volunteered as collectors. After afternoon tea Miss Edna Peace *-ang several excellent songs and Miss Heath and Mrs. A. Campbell contributed pianoforte selections. The enjoyable gathering concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the hostess.
