PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT HOWICK A good number of followers attended ! the meet of the Pakuranga hunt held :at the Howick School yesterday. The ! immediate country was too wet, and the pack turned in a nearby paddock, and after a short draw, the hounds located a hare. It led the way across the East Tamaki Road and ran through Mr. Xicholas’s farm and out ' on to Shelly Park Road, where it I turned into a turnip field and gained a ! short respite. It was soon hunted out, and the pack ran it right back to the East Tamaki Road and through a number of town sections. It was eventually killed on the road near the public school. A draw was then made through the town sections, but without success. Moving on to Mr. Andrews’s property, a hare was soon raised, but was 1 unfortunately chopped before it could i get clear of the rushes. • Owing to the wet state of the coun- j i try, the huntsman, on foot, vorked ■ i the pack through Mr. Wyman’s farm, ! | and put up a strong hare which led the field for a merry spin. Crossing j the road near the homestead, it ran ! on to Mr. Xicholas’s property, and tak- ; ing a big circle round the school, j passed through the town sections, i Turning back, it crossed the farms of I Messrs. Andrews and Wilson and i crossed Botany Road on to Mr. H. Hati taway’s, where it hid in a clump of i gorse. It was put out, and ran back j toward Howick, through some small | holdings, on to the school grounds. , This being barred country, the quarry \ was lost.
