MANY DEBTS; NO ASSETS
BANKRUPT’S VARIED CAREER BILLIARDS TO RABBITS (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. A billiards saloon keeper, calfskin buyer, quarry worker, business agent and rabbit trapper, Harold Kidd, of Te Awamutu, met his creditors at a meeting before the official assignee. Mr. J. H. Robertson, at Hamilton, this morning. His schedule disclosed a deficiency of £156, all debts being owed to unsecured creditors. There were no assets. In his statement bankrupt said that in July, 1928, he obtained a tenancy of a billiards saloon at Te Awamutu. During the first four months business was fair, but in the summer months it slackened off. He accLimulated arrears of rent, and a judgment summons was issued against him. A further debt was incurred by bankrupt to E. Lichtenstein and Co., who employed him to purchase calfskins in Hamilton and King country districts. The debt with Langguth and Langguth was incurred as a result of a business trip he made to the United States in 1923 for their mutual interests. In January, 1928, he was employed by the Piako County Council at Tahuna, but in the following March the quarry closed down and he was thrown out of work. He incurred a debt for board at this time. Bankrupt next purchased a cheap car and commenced trabbit-trapping at Horahora, but the car met with an accident, becoming a total wreck. In reply to the assignee, bankrupt said he married three months ago. His wife was working and paying off instalments for the furniture. He had searched everywhere for work of any kind without success. One of the creditors expressed the view that bankrupt conducted his billiards business badly, playing pool with jockeys instead of attending to customers. Bankrupt hotly denied this. The assignee said he was dissatisfied with bankrupt’s lack of information, and the meeting was adjourned to enable bankrupt to prepare a proper statement.
