PLEASURE LAUNCH FOR MR. H. R. JENKINS, M.P. NEW TRAWLER COMPLETED There is considerable activity in the shipbuilding industry at Auckland at the present time, one firm in particular having enough work on hand to keep it going at top for many months to come.
’ An up-to'date 54ft pleasure launch lunder order to Mr. H. R. Jenkins, MP. for Parnell,.was laid down at the yards of Messrs. Charles Bailey and Son at Freeman's Bay today. The new craft will have all its deck fittings in teak, and the cabin accommodation fittings will be highly polished. The launch, which will have an 11ft Gin beam with a dept of 4ft 6in will be propelled by a 110 hp. Cummins {Diesel engine. It is expected that Mr. Jenkins's launch will be completed by the end of October in readiness for the coming summer cruising season. The new trawler being constructed by Bailey and Son is now nearing completion, and was taken out of the shed yesterday afternoon and left on lthe slipway to await the arrival of her engines from Home. The en'gines are expected to arrive on August 'l2. and the vessel will probably be launched about a week later. 5 The craft, which will be one of the zmost up—to—date seine net trawlers on ithe coasts of New Z'ealand, is for Mr. fJ. Munro, of Auckland, a brother of tCaptain H. Munro, of the Canterbury lSteamship Company. _ The vessel is soft long and has a 1 lift beam. | REFITTING THE HINEMOA l The same firm recently completed a gflTft Whaler for the Auckland Divfsion lot the New Zealand Royal Naval ‘Volunteer Reserve. and this craft will gbe handed over during the next few . days. i Tomorrow Messrs. Bailey and Son iwill commence the refitting of the lformer Government steamer Hinemoa. ,The old vessel, after lying at anchor soff Campbell‘s Point for several inionths has been sold by the Govern‘meut to Mr. D. \K‘. McKay, of Inver;cargill. and will now enter the Miliford Sound tourist service. She will ‘be available for the coming tourist . season. Many structural alterations are to be made to the Hinemoa to provide further passenger accommodation. Additional cabins will take the place ,of the space which of late years was converted for the purpose of cargocarrying during the time the vessel
was in the Norfolk and Nine IslandsAucklaml trade. The old Hinemoa will thus become, as nearly as possible, as originally de—signed, with a. commodious (lining saloon and extra cabins to carry at least 50 passengers in first-class accommodation. Messrs. Bailey and Son have also secured the tender for the erection of a new teak deckhouse on the \Vilson Portland Cement Company’s steamer Herekino.
