The Care of the Car REVERSING FAN BELT In some cases when a fan bclt persists in jumping off the pulley it can be made to stay on by removing it and replacing it with the side that was previously in front toward the rear. The trouble is caused by a defective belt stretching more at one side. than at the other. REPLACING HOSE CONNECTIONS The quickest method of replacing new rubber hose connections to the radiator is to squeeze the hose flat and then double it over in the middle. One end can then be slipped over the radiator pipe easily and the other end will fall back so that the hose can be worked down over the pipe of the cylinder block. FILING WITHOUT SCRATCHING \V‘hen filing. small particles of metal adhering to the file cause scratches on the work. This trouble can be prevented by chalking the file after cleaning. Powdered chalk may be used and rubbed on with the fingers or a large piece 04? lump chalk rubbed over the file, REPAIRING FLEXIBLE WINDOW Should a celluloid Window in an automobile hood crack, it. can be mended in the following simple man. ncrz—Take a strip of thin, tough paper, coating it on both sides with a solution of Canada. balsam. dissolved in turpentine to render it transparent. ‘X‘Vhen dry, apply a little more solution ‘to the edges on one side, stick over lthc damaged part, and smooth out all wrinkles. After 24 hours. coat lboth sides with good transparent rar~ ‘nish. and, if care has been taken in following directions, the repair will ‘last for months.
