CREAM GRADING
—————+——_— HAMILTON CRITICISM PAYMENT FOR SUPERFINE (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON. )londay. Strong objection to the Government regulations prohibiting the payment by dairy companies for superfine graded cream during June. July and August was voiced by members of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union which met in Hamilton this afternoon. Mr. Harkness (“’aiuku). who introduced a resolution from the Franklin Sub-provincial Branch urging that the regulations be repealed. said he believed 25 per cent. of‘ the cream produced in the. three months mentioned should be graded superfine. It was iniquitous that conscientious farmers should be rendered impotent and production checked by an Order-invCoun-cil. l\lr. “1 H. Allen (Tirau). a director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., said his board of directors had expressed the opinion that practically no superfine cream would be made in the months stated. Everything militated against the production of highest grade cream. and most dairy farmers admitted the fact. It was true, he added, that the Government had acted on the advice of the associated dairy companies. “It is absolutely monstrous that these Jegulations should continue." said Mr. R. D. Duxfield (Horotiu). “If the cream graders are worth anything they should be able to judge superfine. It appeals to me as another means of taking a little more out of the farmer. If we can produce superfincb-and we can—why should we not be paid for it?” An appeal to be loyal to the dairy companies was made by Mr. A. N. Mackie (Cambridge). It was finally decided that Blessrs. Duxfield and Allen be appointed a. deputation to obtain information on the matter from the National Dairy Association, and to report to the executive.
