AVykes waited on the Ka:para Hospital Board on Friday evenIt was pointed out that the division was contemplating the purchase of a second-hand ambulance from the Whangarei Division, and Dr. Crump said i; was suggested that the board should dispose of its present ambulance auc purchase the one mentioned, and the Division would run the ambulance service with a subsidy from the board, or. alternatively, that the division purchase the machine and run it with a larger subsidy from the board. The division preferred the latter course. The deputation assured the board that the division would give a 24 hours service. * l After the deputation had rerired it was decided, on the motion of Mr. J. G. Barclay, that the board contribute to the Ambulance Division a sum ol £l° u annually, subject to the consent of th»Department of Health, and conditional upon the ambulance charges to patients by the division being not in excess of those at present charged. It was further resolved that th? chairman and secretary be empowered to negotiate for the sale of the board: present ambulance vehicle upon tfc finalisation of the arrangements wit;, the Ambulance Division. A proposal to increase the fees for hospital treatment from 'J s to 1-s a day was rejected. The proposal to make the increase was made by Mr. W. Collins, a ne* member of the board.
