DAVIS CUP HOCKEY

FINALS NOT YET REACHED SOMERVILLE AND ST. LUKE’S Both Somerville and St. Luke’s won their matches at the Remuera hockey ground on Saturday and consequently the two teams have scored an equal number of points in the competition for the Davis Cup. A play-off match will be necessary to decide which shall hold the cup. 'J’HE grounds were very bad on Saturday, being soft after a week of rain, and were cut up badly tow’ard the end of the afternoon. Practically all the teams suffered from the mud and it is safe to say it was probably responsible for Shore’s beating at the hands of Somerville by 8 goals to 2. Eric Watts played a splendid game for Somerville. there being no stopping him once he had the ball at his stick. Dturea live goals and was Shore’s greatest opponent. In a scrappy game St. Luke's defeated Epiphany by 4to 0. It was not one of St. Luke’s best days and the team should have won far more easily. University defeated Mount Eden by 3 to i in a fairly fast and clever game in which the forwards on both sides distinguished themselves. The position of the teams after the last series of the second and last round of the Davis Cup competition is as follows:

Somerville .. P. w L. D. Ooals F. A. Ft 9. 10 7 3 — 33 10 14 St. Luke’s .. 10 7 3 — 20 14 Mount Eden 10 5 4 1 IS 19 11 Lnlvervitv .. 10 5 4 1 22 11 North Shore . 10 5 5 — IS 1*4 10 Epiphany 10 10 — & 31
