CRUELTY TO WIFE
FARMER IN DOCK ON UNUSUAL CHARGE SUBSTANTIAL BAIL IMPOSED Heavily bearded and broadshouldered, Peter Alexander Eimsley, a farmer, aged 67, of Wairangi, stood in the Police Court dock this morning to face a charge of cruelty to his wife. The detailed charge against him was that for the past four years, and particularly between June 18 and 19, at Wairangi, he neglected to supply Letitia Ann Eimsley with the necessities of life so that her life was endangered. On the application of Chief-Detec-tive Hammond a remand was granted until Friday. Mr. Noble asked for bail, and the chief-detective said that he was not prepared to take any less than two sureties of £250. The wife was in the Salvation Army Home and the child under the care of the Child Welfare Department. The other two girls were in Auckland, and there was nothing to stop the father conferring with them. He would be unable to interfere with the w r ife or child, however.
Bail was allowed in the terms the chief-detective had suggested.
