NAVAL RELIC
New Restmg-Place at lVluseum SAVED FOR POSTERITY A naval relic of great interest will be saved for posterity by the decision of the War Memorial Museum C'auncil to place it in one of the galleries. It is the figurehead 0i H. 315. “'O2verene, which, for some tinle, has been in the possession of its owner at North Shore. At a recent meeting of the )luseum Council a request was received from Connnander Clover. R.N., commanding the Devunport naval depot, that the x’nuseurm should allow the figurehead of HALS. VVOlverene, which had been promised as a. gift by the owner. to be placed with other figure-heads in the gr’o‘hnds of the depot. _
The president, Air. }I. E. Vane! re—marked that the figurehead was about 70 years old and in need of repair. If set up in the open air it would probably not last many years longer, even if. kept painted. He felt that the museum should receive it on behalf of the public.
In accordance with this decision arrangelnents are being made today to have the figurehead transported to the museunl next week. It will be placed on exhibit with two other figureheads.
