CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
DECISION RESERVED (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Friday. Following a collision between twoi taxiwars at the intersection of Queen! and Harris Streets, Pukekohe, recently,l H. \Vild (Mr. E. G. Foster) claimed from Loughrin and Bthvor (Mr. R. Grierson) today, £4O for repairs. The defendants counter-claimed £57. In evidence, plaintiff stated he was proceeding along Harris Street in the direction of Pukekohe ‘Vest at about 15 miles an hour. When approaching the intersection he sounded his horn.‘ Upon looking to his right and ahead he i saw the road was clear. but observed a car owned by defendants and driven} by VV. Ric Lean approaching from his} left. Plaintiff said he regarded it safe‘ to cross the intersection, and when hel was three-quarters of the way across? he saw that an accident was inevitable, } i so he deviated to the right, the other‘ car striking his vehicle on the left side} VVild said he expected the other car toi give way to him. his motor being on its 1 right. After being struck plaintiff‘s: car careered across the road striking; a wooden fence. ‘ To Mr. Grierson plaintiff said defendant's car‘s skid marks were discernible for a distance of BSéft into Harris. Street. Edward George Foster. solicitor, gave evidence that he took measurements subsequent to the accident and found one of defendants’ rear wheels to have skidded 58;[t. The driver of the car owned by the defendants, William McLean, said he observed W'ild's car approaching at a fast rate of speed. about 30 to 35 miles an hour, witness doing 25 miles. He ‘had almost stopped when he was struck lhy 'S’Vild, who let his car proceed ahead after the impact and strike a wan. After the accident witness drove his .car to the side of Harris Street. | In answer to 311‘. Grierson witness isaid he applied his brakes as soon as lhe saw plaintiff. From a hill some 1500de up Queen Street from the corner, Nurse Barton said she saw both cars travelling fast. {\Vild appeared to make a spurt over lthe crossing, and as defendants‘ car 'swerved into Harris Street a collision occurred.
