AFTER 40 YEARS
REV. W. SHIRER T 0 RETIRE A distinct. loss to the Presbyterian Church in Wellington will be the retirement ot the Rev. William shircr, 0.8. E.. who has been in charge of St. James’i Chruch for more than torty years. Born in Aberdeen in 1858, the Rev. Mr. Shirer studied for eight years in the Edinburgh University and the Theological Hall. Ordained in 1888 in Wellington he took charge of St. Jmes’a, and has remained there ever since, rejecting many tempting oflers of chargel in other centres. He was {or 30 years clerk of the Presbytery and acted as convenor of the Chaplains’ Committee of the Gen pnl Assembly for an extensive term. The Order of the British Empire vu bestowed upon him some time ago in recognition of his services to the community. He was also chaplain of the Fifth Wellington Regiment .for many years, but is now on the retired list, holding a. long service medal.
Many denominations beside his ’nwn will regret that advancing age has cxused the Rev. Mr. Shirer to lay aside active work.
