PROTECTION APPLXCATIONS (From Our 011;» Correspondcnt) PAEROA, Friday. A: the \Varden’s Court, before Air. F. \V. Platts, VVarden, a number of applications for protection were received. S. A. Shaw and R. Craig were granted protection certificates over their properties at Karangahake pend—ing the raising of further capital; £4.000 had been spent, with no return. A certificate was granted to the )laoriland Consolidated Co., which claimed protection on account of lack of capital. Up to September the company had spent £5.000. The New Zealand Crown limes, Ltd.. wanted protection to enable it to complete the realisation of assets. The company‘s battery at Karangahake had been dismantled. A certificate was granted. I B. M'orris and J. Williams asked for protection over their properties at Karangahake pending the floating of a company. Mr. M. H. \Vynyard, of Auckland, had an option over the properties and proposed to erect a. battery at Karangahako for the treatment of ore. The application for protection was granted.
H. D. Bedford was granted protection! pending the raising of further capital and on account of high river water. This was a riverbed claim at Mackaytown. Dredging and crushing work had been done thera and gold ex—tracting preliminaries had been arranged. \Vork had continued until last month, when rising waters of the river made the nluim unworkable.
Eliza Adams was given protection over her Komata Reefs property to enable the estate of the late 11. H. Adams to be administered. H. A. )leagher requested pern‘nission to reduce the number of men employed on the Crown 7Mine property at Ka—rangahake from nine men to two for six months. The principal difficulty at present was lack of crushing facilities. Ore had to be sent to Thanles for treatment. It was Mr. Wynyard’s intention to erect a. small crushing plant at Karangahake. In the meantime an effort was being made to secure Government assistance in the erection of a. public crushing plant. The warden granted the application.
MATAMATA JERSEY CLUB
A meeting of the Matamata Jersey Club was held on Thursday evening at Tirau, hit. 11. Lewis presiding over about 25 Jersey breeders. The chairman referred feelingly fo the death of Mr. XV. J. Hall, Mamtoki, who had done .1 great deal to help the Jersey breed along. He also extended the Club‘s sympathy to a member, Air. Jamieson, in the loss of his Wife. New members elected were Messrs. A. Gray, \V. Jordan, L. Clark, Reid, Peppers and Dalton. Mr. R. H. Garland resigned his position as secretary, and IVIr. I\l. Gould was elected in his place, members ex—pressing their appreciation of Mr. Garland‘s services. Mr. J. Barker proposed that the club start a. Jersey Oaks class, as he considered it an ideal test. The animals were nominated as calves, put under C.O.R. test at two years old, and judged as three year olds. It was unanimously decided to ina‘ugurate the hiatamatu Jersey Oaks, the secretary being instructed to write to the “hailcato Association for particulars. The nomination fee was fixed at 55, the Oaks to be open to all—comers.
