POTATO MARKET QUIET
POSITION IN CANTERBURY Press Association CHRISTCHURCII, Friday. The only interest in the grain and produce market during the week has been in connection with potatoes. Many hundreds of tons have been sold. but yester—day the excitement commenced to subside and today the market is fairly quiet. The top price was £7 105 120.17., 5.1. The price at the moment is quoted at £7 75 6d to £7 105. The rate for AugustSeptember delivery has firmed and business has been done at £37 155 to £7 175 6d, with most sellers wanting up to £5. Farmers have been paid £6 75 Ed on trucks and in a few cases of near-by stations £6 105. However, the deluge of rain has suspended delivery, farmers not being able to get to their pits. and this has had some influence on the absence of otters. In the meantime. with ihe prospect of a. fairly heavy consignment being shipped by the \Vingntui. which is now loading at Lyttelton and will probably sail to—morrow, Auckland inquiries have eased. and the market may be described as steady at the recent advance. The \Vingatui was scheduled to call at Pic-ton and “’ellington. but the Auckland scarcity has caused the former port to be cut out. The cargo from Tinmru comprised 3,900 sacks, and the local complement will be between 5.500 and 6.000 sacks The Kaiwarra will load next week. The position is apparently regarded by Northern interests as satisfactory. as reoffers for August-September were being made today at £7 15s to £7 173 6d a. ton. chaff is firm at £6 25 6d to £6 55. f.0.b., 5.1.
