DEVONPORT’S GROWTH
MANY DWELLINGS ERECTED The popular idea that Devonport Borough is all built over is not sustained by a report tabled at Devonport Borough Council meeting by the building inspector. Since January, 23 permits for the erection of new dwelings have been issued, and 16 houses are now under construction. The borough has an area of 900 acres, of which Goverment land and parks and domains account for one-third. More than 2,500 houses have been erected in the borough. The new dwellings average, for permit purposes, £947 in price, indicating that substantial houses are being put up. In addition, S 7 permits have been issued for alterations to dwellings of a value of £3,245. Permits for alterations and rebuilding of buildings, other than houses, amounted to £11,670. The Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, remarked that it was a very satisfactory position. Air. T. Walsh, secretary to the North Shore Expansion League, said there was quite a revival in building all over the North Shore.
