VAGRANCY LAWS
AMENDMENT SUGGESTED TREATMENT OF UNEMPLOYED (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A hint that the law will b.e amended so that a man should not be charged with being idle and disorderly simply because he has no means, was dropped in the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, in the course of the speech of Mr. J. T. Hogan (Rangitikei) in the Address-in-Reply debate. Mr. Hogan suggested that the law should be so amended, and Mr. Wilford interjected that it was proposed to introduce legislation this session to bring that about. Mr. Hogan expressed gratification at this, and said that, as the Minister knew, quite a number of men had been haled before the court, their only crime being that they had no money with which to buy a meal.
