BOGUS CHEQUE
FRAUD UNDER FALSE NAME THREE MONTHS’ GAOL Handing a bogus cheque for the licensee of a city hotel in payment of an account, George Leach obtained £2 change on June 15. T EACH, aged 29, appeared at the Police Court this morning for sentence on a charge of obtaining £2 from Percival Kinimont by means of a valueless cheque, having been remanded in order that inquiries might be made about him. Chief-Detective Hammond was of the opinion that Leach’s name was really Gibb. “He has a long list,” he said, and Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., read out such items as vagrancy, breach of probation and drunkenness. The chief-detective reminded the magistrate that Leach had been fined 10s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness, and £2 or seven days for using obscene language a day or so before. Sentence of three months’ imprisonment was imposed. Under the name of Stanley George Gibb, Leach pleaded guilty to a charge of being unlawfully found on licensed premises. He was convicted and discharged.
